When God Waits for Your Whole Heart
Sometimes the waiting isn’t punishment… it’s preparation.
🤍 When God Waits for Your Whole Heart
This morning I read the story of Hannah in 1 Samuel, and I found myself sitting quietly, thinking through her story.
So many thoughts came to mind.
But one stood out the most:
God knows what we need — and what we don’t need — in order for us to seek Him.
Hannah longed for a child.
Her heart ached for one.
Year after year she waited.
And in that waiting… she prayed.
She cried out to God.
She poured out her heart.
She surrendered her deepest desire.
"In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly."
— 1 Samuel 1:10
And then Hannah did something remarkable.
She made a promise.
"Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me… then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life."
— 1 Samuel 1:11
She didn’t just ask for a child.
She offered the child back to God.
And as I sat with this story, I couldn’t help but wonder…
If Hannah had been able to have children before Samuel…
Would she have been willing to dedicate her son so fully?
Would she have taken the gift for granted?
Would she have held on tightly instead of releasing him?
Or would she have done the same thing…
Giving him completely to the Lord?
We don’t know.
But what we do know is this:
God used the waiting to shape Hannah’s heart.
The waiting brought her closer to Him.
The waiting deepened her surrender.
The waiting prepared her to release what she loved most.
And I see this in my own life.
I see the times when God waited.
The times when He held back what I thought I needed.
The times when He allowed me to sit in longing.
Because sometimes…
God needs our whole heart to be in it.
God knows that true peace and joy only come when He is at the center.
If you have a heart’s desire…
And deep down you feel the Lord drawing you toward it…
I encourage you to sit with God and pray about it.
Give it to Him.
Allow Him to work in you.
Praise Him for what you have…
And even for what you don’t have.
And trust Him.
Because I believe when you do, one of two things will happen:
First, you may discover that God was all you needed…
And what you thought you wanted wasn’t from Him.
Or second, you may discover that it was exactly what you needed…
You just didn’t need it without God in it.
And honestly…
Who really needs or wants anything that God isn’t in?
"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."
— Psalm 37:4
When God is at the center…
Our desires change.
Our hearts soften.
And our blessings become something more than we imagined.
Just like Hannah.
She didn’t just receive a son.
She received peace, purpose, and joy — all because she trusted God with her whole heart.
📖 Scripture
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
— Proverbs 3:5
