Remember..Don’t Look Back

Remembering builds your faith… looking back can keep you stuck.

🔁 Remember… Don’t Look Back

This morning as I sat in God’s Word, one word kept rising to the surface:

Remember.

All throughout the Bible, we are told to remember.

Remember how God delivered His people out of Egypt.
Remember the miracles.
Remember the cries for help… and the way He answered.
Remember the disobedience… and the redemption that followed.

Over and over again… remember.

And then Jesus says:

“Do this in remembrance of Me.”
— Luke 22:19

But at the same time… we’re warned not to look back.

So if we’re not careful, we might think…

Wait… aren’t those the same thing?

They’re not.

Remembering and looking back may seem similar…
but they come from two completely different places.

🌿 Remembering

Remembering is a celebration.

It’s choosing to recall the goodness of God.
It’s sharing the stories of His faithfulness.
It’s becoming a witness to His love, mercy, and grace.

Remembering lifts your heart.
It fills you with gratitude.
It strengthens your faith.
It reminds you of who God is.

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember Your miracles of long ago.”
— Psalm 77:11

⚠️ Looking Back

But looking back…

That’s different.

Looking back often carries:

Regret.
Shame.
Unforgiveness.
Loss.

Looking back pulls you into what was…
instead of pointing you to what God is doing now.

Jesus gave a very clear warning:

“Remember Lot’s wife.”
— Luke 17:32

She didn’t just glance back…

Her heart was still there.

And that’s the difference.

✨ Moving Forward

God doesn’t ask us to carry the weight of our past.

He asks us to release it.

“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead…”
— Philippians 3:13

God wants us to remember His love.
Remember His mercy.
Remember His grace.

But He does not want us to live in regret or shame.

💭 A Gentle Check

So the next time you feel yourself drifting into the past…

Pause.

Ask yourself:

Is this remembering… or is this looking back?

If it’s filled with gratitude…
If it reminds you of God’s faithfulness…

Hold onto it.

But if it’s filled with shame…
If it pulls you into regret…

Release it.

Because that is not from God.

🎉 Choose to Remember

Instead…

Celebrate.
Rejoice.
Share what He has done in your life.

Let your story become a testimony of His goodness.

Because remembering draws you closer to Him…

But looking back can keep you stuck.

📖 Scripture

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!"
— Isaiah 43:18–19
