Keep the Conversation Going
There are seasons in life that seem to arrive without warning.
One phone call.
One diagnosis.
One broken relationship.
One unexpected loss.
One disappointment.
Before we know it, we're standing in a place we never imagined we'd be.
Our prayers become shorter.
Our hearts become heavier.
Our emotions seem to change by the hour.
Sometimes we even find ourselves asking the question we've almost been afraid to say out loud.
"God...where are You?"
If you've ever found yourself there, you're not alone.
One of my favorite stories in Scripture is about the prophet Elijah.
After witnessing one of God's greatest miracles on Mount Carmel, Elijah fled into the wilderness exhausted, discouraged, and afraid. He wanted to quit.
He expected to find God in dramatic ways.
A powerful wind.
An earthquake.
A fire.
But Scripture tells us that the Lord was not in those things.
Then came a gentle whisper.
(1 Kings 19:11–13)
That passage reminds me of something I need to hear often.
God hadn't stopped speaking.
Elijah had simply entered a season where he needed to listen differently.
Life has a way of making us believe that silence means absence.
It doesn't.
Sometimes the hardest seasons simply teach us to recognize the gentle voice of the Shepherd.
Friend, if you're walking through one of those seasons today, don't stop talking to God just because your prayers feel weak.
Some days your prayer may be nothing more than,
"Lord...help."
Or,
"Father...I don't understand."
Or simply,
"I'm still here."
Those are still prayers.
And every one of them is heard.
The God who knows every hair on your head also knows every tear you've cried.
He knows the questions you haven't found words for yet.
He knows the hurt behind your silence.
He has not turned away from you.
And while you continue talking to Him...
Don't stop listening for Him.
Open His Word.
Sit quietly in His presence.
Ask Him to show you His heart.
The same God who spoke through prophets, kings, and apostles still speaks through the Scriptures He has given us and through the Holy Spirit who leads His children into truth.
Keep the conversation going.
Not because your words are perfect.
But because your Father loves hearing His children.
And don't assume God has become silent simply because life has become loud.
Sometimes His whisper is heard most clearly when we finally become still.
Encouragement
If prayer feels difficult today, don't measure your relationship with God by the length of your prayers or the strength of your emotions.
Measure it by His promises.
He promised He would never leave you or forsake you.
Your feelings may rise and fall.
His faithfulness never does.
Keep coming.
Keep listening.
Keep trusting.
Your Father is closer than you realize.
❤️ Heart Audit
Before you end your day, spend a few quiet moments with your Father and ask:
Father, what has become so loud in my life that it is making it difficult to hear Your voice through Your Word?
Have I mistaken Your silence for Your absence, or are You inviting me to listen more carefully?
What is one simple way I can keep the conversation with You going tomorrow?
Prayer
Father,
Thank You that You never grow tired of hearing my voice, even when my prayers are weak or my words are few.
When life feels overwhelming and my heart is heavy, remind me that You have not moved.
Help me keep talking to You honestly and help me keep listening through Your Word and the leading of Your Spirit.
Quiet the voices of fear, confusion, and discouragement so I can recognize the gentle voice of my Shepherd.
Thank You for being faithful, even when I struggle to see what You're doing.
Keep my heart close to Yours.

Notice how God chose to meet him.
Ask yourself:
"What does this passage reveal about the heart of God toward someone who is exhausted, discouraged, and struggling?"

"Father, help me recognize Your voice today."
Then open your Bible expecting that the God who has always spoken through His Word still desires to meet you there.

Never stop talking to God, and never stop listening for His voice through His Word. The conversation He began with you is one He never intends to end.
