God Never Moved

God Never Moved

There are moments in life that change us before we even realize they have.

Losing my father was one of those moments.

I expected sadness.

I expected tears.

What I didn't expect was everything else.

Grief has a way of uncovering places in our hearts we didn't know were still there.

As I sat with the loss, I found myself grieving not only the man I loved, but also the relationship I had always hoped we would have.

Old wounds I thought had healed suddenly demanded my attention.

Questions I thought I'd settled resurfaced.

Emotions I didn't expect became impossible to ignore.

It caught me completely off guard.

At first, I was disappointed in myself.

Instead of running to God for comfort, I quietly withdrew.

I found it easy to pray for everyone else.

I prayed that God would surround my family with peace.

I prayed that He would comfort those who were hurting.

I prayed that He would carry their grief.

But somehow, I wasn't willing to let Him carry mine.

Looking back, I realize I felt abandoned.

Not because God had abandoned me.

But because grief had become so loud that I could no longer hear what had never stopped being true.

Then one morning, I finally opened my Bible.

Not because I had all the answers.

Not because I suddenly felt strong.

Simply because I had nowhere else to go.

As I sat quietly before the Lord, something beautiful happened.

He didn't explain everything.

He didn't answer every question.

He didn't erase my grief.

Instead, through His Word, He gently reminded me of something I desperately needed to hear.

"I see you."

"I love you."

And somehow...

That was enough for that day.

Did the pain disappear?

No.

Did I suddenly stop grieving?

No.

But I experienced the first wave of peace.

Not because my circumstances had changed.

Because my heart had begun returning to the One who never left.

That's when I realized something.

I needed to allow God to do in me the very thing I had been asking Him to do in everyone else.

I had been praying for peace for others while quietly refusing to receive His peace for myself.

How often do we do that?

We believe God is faithful for everyone else.

We encourage others to trust Him.

We remind them that He is near.

Yet when our own hearts break, we wonder if somehow we've been forgotten.

Friend, if grief has brought you to that place, I want you to know something.

God has not moved.

He is not intimidated by your questions.

He is not discouraged by your tears.

He is not waiting for you to become stronger before He comes near.

He is already there.

Grief changes many things.

It changes routines.

It changes holidays.

It changes the sound of the house.

It changes what life looks like from this day forward.

But there is one thing grief cannot change.

The faithfulness of God.

The same Father who walked with you yesterday will walk with you tomorrow.

The same Savior who wept at Lazarus's tomb still weeps with those who mourn.

The same Holy Spirit who is called the Comforter still comforts broken hearts today.

Life may never look the same.

But neither will the love of God.

That has never changed.

And it never will.

Encouragement

If you're grieving today, don't put pressure on yourself to "move on."

Bring your whole heart to God.

The questions.

The memories.

The tears.

The disappointments.

The silence.

He is not overwhelmed by any of it.

He isn't asking you to grieve perfectly.

He's simply inviting you to grieve with Him.

❤️ Heart Audit

Before you end your day, spend a few quiet moments with your Father and ask:

  1. Father, is there a place in my grief where I have quietly closed my heart to You?

  2. What pain have I been praying for others to heal while struggling to let You heal it in me?

  3. What truth about Your character do I need to cling to today instead of my emotions?

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for seeing me completely.

Thank You for loving me even when I don't know how to pray, when my heart is heavy, and when my emotions feel overwhelming.

Teach me to bring every part of my grief into Your presence.

Help me receive the same comfort I so freely ask You to give others.

When I cannot understand what You are doing, remind me of who You are.

Thank You for never leaving me, never forsaking me, and never growing weary of holding my broken heart.

Walk with me through this season, one day at a time.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

📖 See for Yourself

Read Psalm 34, especially verses 17–18.

As you read, notice how David describes God's nearness to those who are brokenhearted.

Ask yourself:

"What does this passage reveal about God's heart toward people who are grieving?"

I'd love to hear what God reveals to you as you spend time with Him.

Tomorrow's Invitation

Tomorrow, when grief quietly finds you again—and it probably will—don't fight it.

Pause.

Open your Bible.

Read one psalm.

Then simply pray,

"Father, help me receive today what I so easily ask You to give everyone else."

Anchor Truth

Grief may change your life, but it will never change God's presence. He never moved.
