🌊 Stop Looking for the Storm

What if God never intended for storms to be the only place you seek Him deeply?
🌊 Stop Looking for the Storm
The storms in life have a way of shaping us.
They either push us toward God…
or convince us to depend on our own strength.
And if I’m being honest, I’ve noticed something about myself.
When life feels stormy…
My prayers become deeper.
My dependence becomes stronger.
My awareness of Him becomes sharper.
But when life feels smooth…
When the bills are paid, the schedules are manageable, relationships feel stable, and nothing major seems wrong…
Sometimes my consistency fades.
Not intentionally.
Just slowly.
Quietly.
And the more I thought about it, the more I realized I’m probably not alone in that.
Many of us seek God desperately in storms…
but casually in comfort.
🌫️ The Danger of Comfortable Drift
And honestly?
I think the enemy knows that.
I think sometimes Satan allows life to run just smooth enough to give us a false sense of security.
Not enough peace to truly rest…
just enough comfort to slowly drift.
And then we begin believing:
✔️ things are going well because we’re managing well
✔️ we’re okay because we figured things out
✔️ we’re safe because we’re in control
Without even realizing it, our dependence shifts.
Not away from God completely…
Just enough to stop seeking Him the same way.
đź’ The Hard Question
As I reflected on patterns in my own life, another realization hit me.
Sometimes I hold onto storm seasons longer than I should.
I replay them.
Analyze them.
Carry them.
Almost like I’m afraid to let them go.
And that led me to ask myself a hard question:
Am I holding onto the storm because I know it keeps me close to God?
Or…
Is God allowing me to sit in it longer because that’s when I seek Him the most?
That question settled deeply in my heart.
Because what if God isn’t asking us to need storms in order to seek Him?
What if He’s teaching us how to seek Him consistently… no matter the season?
👀 Look for God… Not the Storm
So I asked another question:
How do I break this pattern?
How do I seek God every day — not just when life hurts?
And as usual…
The answer came quietly and clearly.
Live looking for God… not the storm.
That changed something in me.
Because so much of my focus had been on:
⚡ avoiding storms
⚡ surviving storms
⚡ understanding storms
⚡ escaping storms
When all along…
God was asking me to focus on Him.
Not the waves.
Not the wind.
Not the fear.
Him.
🌊 Peter Sank When He Watched the Storm
It reminded me of Peter walking on water.
The moment Peter focused on the storm… he sank.
But as long as his eyes were on Jesus…
he walked.
“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid…”
— Matthew 14:30
That’s us sometimes.
We become storm watchers instead of God seekers.
But peace comes differently when you trust the One who calms the storm.
Not just the One who removes it.
🤍 A Different Kind of Peace
So now I’m learning something new.
To live as if I don’t even notice the storm…
because I trust the One standing in it with me.
Not ignoring pain.
Not pretending life is perfect.
But refusing to let fear become my focus.
Because storms will come.
But God remains.
And maybe real spiritual maturity looks like this:
Seeking God just as passionately in peace
as we do in pain.
đź“– Scripture for Today
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”
— Isaiah 26:3
đź’ Thought for Today
Peace comes when you stop focusing on the storm and start looking for God.
🙏 Prayer
Lord, teach me to seek You in every season, not just the difficult ones. Help me fix my eyes on You instead of the storms around me. Amen.
✔️ Practical Step
The next time anxiety rises, pause and ask yourself:
“Am I looking at the storm… or am I looking for God?”
Then shift your focus back to Him.
