What Is Dying From Lack of Discipline?
What Is Dying From Lack of Discipline?
đź“– Scripture
“He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great folly he is led astray.”
— Proverbs 5:23
🌿
Have you ever stopped and asked yourself:
What in my life is struggling because I lack discipline?
Not because God forgot you.
Not because you aren’t talented.
Not because success is impossible.
But simply because discipline is missing?
❤️ Heart
Almost every day I pray the same prayer:
“God, make me disciplined enough to become the person You created me to be.”
Some days I get close.
And some days…
I fail epically.
Not always in huge dramatic ways.
Sometimes it’s the small things.
I put things down instead of putting them away.
I waste time and end up rushing later.
I react emotionally instead of responding calmly.
I start strong and lose consistency halfway through.
And honestly?
The list could probably go on forever.
This morning I sat with Proverbs 5:23:
“He dies for lack of discipline…”
And that verse hit me differently today.
Not physically dying…
But slowly allowing areas of life to weaken, decay, or fall apart because discipline is missing.
So I asked myself:
What in my life is dying because of lack of discipline?
And the answer came quickly.
Almost every area where I feel overwhelmed, frustrated, inconsistent, or stuck…
Can somehow be traced back to discipline.
Because discipline affects everything.
My prayer life.
My words.
My reactions.
My habits.
My health.
My time.
My relationships.
My peace.
Discipline is often the quiet difference between chaos and peace.
And if I’m honest…
Many of us keep praying for God to fix things we refuse to be disciplined enough to change.
We want peace without consistency.
Growth without effort.
Transformation without surrender.
But God talks about discipline all throughout Scripture because He knows how deeply it impacts our lives.
“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace…”
— Hebrews 12:11
That part matters:
A harvest of righteousness and peace.
Not instantly.
Not overnight.
Over time.
Because discipline rarely feels exciting in the moment.
It feels repetitive.
Ordinary.
Slow.
But over time…
It changes everything.
Little disciplines become lifelong fruit.
A disciplined prayer life changes your heart.
Disciplined words change relationships.
Disciplined habits change your future.
And maybe the hardest realization of all is this:
The areas where we want the biggest breakthroughs…
Are often the areas where we avoid the smallest disciplines.
But God isn’t asking us for perfection.
He’s asking us to keep showing up.
To keep trying again.
To keep surrendering.
To keep allowing Him to shape us little by little.
Because discipline isn’t punishment.
It’s preparation.
Preparation for the life God created us to live.
✨ Takeaway
The life you want is often built through the small disciplines you keep avoiding.
🪴 Action Step
Ask yourself honestly today:
What area of my life is suffering because of lack of discipline?
Then choose one small, consistent step to begin changing it.
Not perfectly.
Not all at once.
Just faithfully.
🙏 Prayer
Lord, help me become disciplined enough to live the life You created me for. Strengthen me in the small daily choices that lead me closer to You. Give me consistency, wisdom, and the courage to keep showing up even when growth feels slow. Amen.
