The Prayer I Forgot to Pray
The Prayer I Forgot to Pray
Life gets busy.
Really busy.
We wake up with every intention of spending more time with God.
We tell ourselves we're going to take Him with us everywhere we go.
We feel hopeful that today will be the day we recognize Him in everything.
We want to begin the day in gratitude.
We want to remember His blessings.
We want to praise His name.
We want to open His Word before opening our phones.
But then life happens.
The alarm rings, and we get up a little later than expected.
The kids need something.
The emails begin.
The phone rings.
The laundry waits.
The responsibilities pile up.
Before we know it...
It's lunchtime.
Then evening.
And somewhere along the way we realize...
We forgot to talk to the One we wanted to spend the day with.
If you're anything like me, your first response might be guilt.
"I should have done better."
"I'll try harder tomorrow."
But recently, God has been teaching me something different.
Maybe the problem isn't simply that life got busy.
Maybe the problem is that I've allowed my day to become so full that I've forgotten to remain aware of His presence.
The Apostle Paul tells us to:
"Pray without ceasing."
— 1 Thessalonians 5:17
For years, I thought that meant praying longer.
Now I wonder if it means remembering more often.
Remembering that God isn't waiting for my scheduled appointment with Him.
He's walking with me through the entire day.
What if prayer isn't only something we do...
What if it's Someone we walk with?
Imagine a husband and wife spending an entire day together without speaking.
The relationship would begin to feel distant.
Not because they stopped loving one another.
But because communication stopped.
How often do we do that with God?
We rush through our responsibilities.
We make decisions.
We carry burdens.
We solve problems.
We celebrate victories.
We worry about tomorrow.
And then, at the end of the day, we finally remember to invite Him into moments He wanted to share with us all along.
The beautiful truth is this:
God isn't keeping score.
He isn't waiting to shame us for missing our quiet time.
He's inviting us back into relationship.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Perhaps the goal isn't to become someone who never gets distracted.
Perhaps the goal is to become someone who returns more quickly.
A whispered prayer while driving.
A quiet "Thank You" after a difficult conversation.
A moment of worship while washing dishes.
A prayer for wisdom before sending the email.
A confession the moment conviction comes.
A heart that keeps turning toward the Father throughout the day.
Because relationship isn't built through perfection.
It's built through presence.
One of my favorite prayers has become much simpler than it used to be.
"Father, don't let me get so busy doing life that I forget to do it with You."
That prayer has changed the way I see my day.
I'm no longer trying to fit God into my schedule.
I'm learning to recognize that He has already entered it.
So if you find yourself at lunchtime realizing you haven't prayed...
Or lying in bed wondering where the day went...
Don't let guilt become the loudest voice you hear.
Instead, hear the gentle invitation of your Father.
"Come walk with Me."
Not tomorrow.
Not after you've done better.
Right now.
Because the God who created time...
Has never stopped making time for you.
Thought for Today
Prayer isn't just something we schedule with God—it's an invitation to walk with Him throughout the entire day.
Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I become so busy doing life that I forget to do it with You. Help me recognize Your presence in the ordinary moments of my day. Teach me to turn my heart toward You more often, not out of guilt, but out of love. May my life become an ongoing conversation with You, and may I never forget that You are always walking beside me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
