Can God Do Worse Than Me?

A Hard Question With a Holy Answer

I want to ask you a hard question—

one that might make you shift in your seat a little.

But I believe it has the power to transform your thinking,

bring clarity to your past,

and open a door to a different kind of future.

When is the last time you made a decision without consulting God…

and it actually turned out for your good?

I’ll wait.

Because if you can think of one,

let me be the first to say—

Thank God.

Thank Him for His protection, His grace, His provision,

because without those things,

it wouldn’t have turned out the way it did.

Most of us, if we’re honest,

can trace a whole line of choices we made alone—

choices born out of fear, desire, impatience, pride, pressure—

and see the same three things waiting for us on the other side:

Confusion.

Chaos.

Consequences.

The 3 C’s of self-led decisions.

I know because they followed me like shadows for years.

They were predictable.

They were exhausting.

And worst of all,

they were avoidable.

But then came the other kind of decision…

The ones where I took a breath,

paused long enough to invite God in,

and said,

“Lord, what do You want?”

Those decisions—

even the hard ones,

even the slow ones,

even the unexpected ones—

came with a completely different atmosphere.

Forgiveness.

Peace.

Clarity.

Growth.

Mercy.

Love.

They didn’t always feel easy.

Sometimes they stretched me.

Sometimes they challenged me.

But never once did they leave me with the 3 C’s.

Because there is a world of difference

between a life led by self

and a life led by God.

The Difference Isn’t Only in the Outcome—It’s in the State of Mind While Living in It.

When I was making decisions on my own,

I lived in a constant posture of holding my breath—

waiting for the bad news,

bracing for impact,

second-guessing my steps.

But when I started including God,

something shifted.

I recognized His hand in places I never noticed before.

Peace became familiar instead of foreign.

Hope started rising instead of dread.

And I realized something that humbled me deeply:

I don’t want anything that isn’t from Him.

Not anymore.

Not ever again.

Because I’ve seen what I can do.

And I’ve seen what He can do.

And they aren’t even close.

Reflection Has a Way of Revealing Truth

Take a moment today and look back over your life:

The good decisions

The bad decisions

The ones that shaped entire seasons

The ones made out of fear

The ones made out of hope

The ones made without a second thought

And especially the ones made without God

Look at the fruit each one produced.

Did it lead to confusion, chaos, consequences?

Or did it lead to

peace, clarity, grace, mercy, healing, growth?

Ask yourself honestly:

Can God really do worse than me?

Has He ever?

Even once?

We both know the answer.

Not only can He not do worse—He can do exceedingly, abundantly better.

(Ephesians 3:20)

If You Start Including God in Your Decisions…Your Life Will Change.

Your thinking will shift.

Your confidence will grow.

Your panic will quiet.

Your chaos will settle.

Your trust will deepen.

And your relationship with God

will move from distant and doubtful

to close and steady.

The Bible says:

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:6

Not some of your ways.

Not only the big decisions.

Not only the painful ones.

All.

Because He loves you.

He sees what you cannot.

And He desires good for you.

So today—

let this be the moment you surrender the pen

you’ve been using to write your own story

and hand it back to the Author

who never writes chaos into the ending.

He writes redemption.

He writes restoration.

He writes peace.

💭 Reflection Question:

What decision in your life would look different today if you had fully invited God into it?

🙏 Prayer:

Lord, open my eyes to the places where I’ve made decisions without You.

Replace my confusion with Your clarity, my chaos with Your peace, and my fear with trust.

Teach me to acknowledge You in all things and to surrender the pen so You can write my story Your way.

Lead me, guide me, and give me a heart that seeks You first.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

🛠️ Practical Step:

Before making your next decision—big or small—pause and ask:

“God, what do You want?”

Write down whatever peace, conviction, or scripture He brings to mind.
