The Real Why

The real reason to live a Kingdom-worthy life might not be what you think.

🌿 The Real Why

In the coaching world, everything circles back to one word:

Why.

If you can figure out why you want something, you can endure almost anything to get it.

Your why fuels your discipline.
Your why outlasts obstacles.
Your why determines whether you quit or push through.

It usually ties back to a result —

A better life.
Less stress.
More clarity.
Greater success.

So when I was asked in church this morning:

“What are you doing to live a Kingdom-worthy life?”

My first instinct wasn’t to list actions.

It was to ask myself:

Why do I even want to live a Kingdom-worthy life?

đź’ The First Answers

At first, my answers sounded right.

Love.
Peace.
Joy.
Hope.

The fruits of the Spirit.
The promises of God.
The beautiful benefits of walking with Christ.

But then I dug deeper.

And that’s when it got uncomfortable.

Because underneath the polished answers were motives that were… well… more about me.

To get into heaven.
To feel loved.
To have less stress.
To see doors open.
To escape shame.
To be a better version of myself.
To have Someone to tell all my fears to without being judged.

And as I sat there, I felt the tension.

None of those things are wrong.

God absolutely provides them.

Scripture is full of His promises of peace (John 14:27), rest (Matthew 11:28), eternal life (John 3:16), and joy (Psalm 16:11).

But if I’m honest…

those answers were still centered on what I receive.

And that’s when the Holy Spirit gently pressed a little deeper.

✨ The Shift

What if the real why isn’t about what you get?

What if the real why is about Who you love?

Suddenly my “why” shifted from benefits to devotion.

The real reason I should want to live a Kingdom-worthy life is:

Because I desire to please God.

Because I long to hear,

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
— Matthew 25:23

Because I want my life to reflect Jesus so clearly that people cannot tell where He ends and I begin.

Because I love Him.

Not because of what He gives me.

But because of who He is.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
— Matthew 22:37

Not love Him for what He does.

Love Him.

There’s a difference.

🌾 Secondary Blessings

And here’s the beautiful truth.

When God becomes the why, the blessings still come.

Peace still comes.
Joy still comes.
Hope still comes.
Heaven is still promised.

But they become secondary.

They are no longer the goal — they are the overflow.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
— Matthew 6:33

Seek first.

Not seek what comes from Him first.

Seek Him.

🕊 A Kingdom-Worthy Life

Living a Kingdom-worthy life isn’t about perfection.

It’s about orientation.

Where is your heart facing?

Is it facing the gifts —
or the Giver?

Is your obedience driven by fear of missing out on blessing —

or love for the One who saved you?

Paul said:

“So we make it our goal to please Him.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:9

That’s it.

Not to impress people.
Not to secure comfort.
Not to guarantee ease.

To please Him.

đź’ˇ The Hard and Honest Question

So let me ask you what I had to ask myself:

If none of the blessings were guaranteed…

If following Jesus made life harder instead of easier…

If the doors didn’t open quickly…

If the stress didn’t disappear immediately…

Would He still be worthy of your devotion?

Because that answer reveals your real why.

And when your why becomes:

“I desire to be one with Him.”
“I desire to reflect Him.”
“I desire to honor Him.”

Something changes.

Your obedience becomes love-driven, not reward-driven.

Your faith becomes devotion, not transaction.

And suddenly living a Kingdom-worthy life isn’t about what you gain.

It’s about who you become.

🙏 Prayer

Lord, search my heart and reveal my true motives. Help my faith grow deeper than the blessings I receive. Teach me to love You for who You are, not just for what You provide. Let my life be driven by devotion, not transaction. Amen.

👣 Practical Step

Take a few quiet minutes today and write down your honest “why” for following Jesus. Ask God to refine it until your greatest desire is simply Him.

đź’Ś Share With Someone

If this made you pause and think, send it to someone you trust. Honest conversations about our “why” often deepen our faith together.
