đ Bible Study:
A Call to Action
1 John 2:6 says, âWhoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.â
Itâs not just a verseâitâs a call to action.
Those words challenge me every time I read them, because they donât leave much room for comfort. They donât ask if I want to live like Jesus. They tell me that if I claim to belong to Him, this is how I must live.
But Iâve learned not to stop at one verse. The Bible is like a heartbeatâeach verse connects to the next, giving life to the full message.
Verse 4 says, âWhoever says, âI know him,â but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.â
That one stings a little, doesnât it? Itâs not easy to read, because it forces me to ask hard questions:
Do I really live like I know Him, or do I just talk like I do?
Do my actions reflect His love, His patience, His forgivenessâor just my own emotions?
But then comes verse 5, and it brings hope.
âBut if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them.â
There it isâthe answer to every âwhat if I fail?â question.
Obedience doesnât mean perfection. It means a heart that keeps turning back.
Love made complete through surrender, not performance.
And then verse 6 ties it all together:
If we claim to live in Him, we must live as He did.
Itâs all connectedâthe warning, the hope, the call.
The Bible doesnât just tell us what to do. It shows us who to be.
And I love that it doesnât leave us trapped in guilt when we fall short. Because John reminds us earlier in this same chapter that when we sin, we have an advocateâJesus Christ, the righteous one. The forgiver of our sins.
He doesnât just call us to live like HimâHe helps us do it.
Thatâs what makes Scripture so powerful. Itâs not a list of verses to cherry-pick when we need comfort or strength. Itâs a conversationâa living, breathing guide that answers our questions while always pointing us back to the same truth:
Follow Jesus.
Do your best not to sin against Him.
And when you do sin, donât hide. Donât sit in shame. Come to Him, ask for forgiveness, and receive it.
Because forgiveness isnât failureâitâs faith in action.
đ Reflection:
The Word of God doesnât demand perfectionâit invites transformation. Every verse surrounding 1 John 2:6 reveals something important: conviction, hope, challenge, and grace exist together. The question isnât âDo I live perfectly?â but âDo I live surrendered?â
đ A Question for You:
Where is God calling you to shift from âknowing the verseâ to actually âliving the verseâ?
đ Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your Word and how it always points me back to You. Teach me to read it with depth, not just to find comfort but to find direction. Help me to live as Jesus didâwith love, humility, and obedience. When I fail, remind me that You are my advocate and my Savior. Forgive me, restore me, and strengthen me to walk in Your ways. In Jesusâ name, Amen.
⥠Practical Step:
Choose one of Jesusâ actionsâkindness, forgiveness, patience, truthâand practice it intentionally today. One decision of obedience at a time brings your life into alignment with His.
