đ Bible Study
We all know the poem about the footprints in the sand.
Two sets of footprintsâuntil there is only one.
And weâre told that when there was only one, God was carrying us.
But as this new year begins, I find myself praying something a little different.
I pray that this year there will be only one set of footprints in our livesânot because God is carrying us, but because we are walking so closely with Him that our feet fit inside His.
Picture it with me.
The sand is soft beneath your feet, warm from the sun, shaped by the tide. Each step leaves a markâsome deep, some lighterâbut every one tells a story. And ahead of you are footprints far larger than your own. Steady. Certain. Unchanging.
Godâs footprints.
They are wide and deep, pressed firmly into the sand. They donât shift with emotion. They donât disappear with doubt. They remainâstep after stepâleading forward.
And then there are yours.
Smaller. Lighter. Sometimes uncertain.
But when you walk close enough, your footprints fit inside His. Almost hidden. Protected. Guided. Even when you wobble, His footprint is large enough to hold you.
This is how close I pray we walk with God this year.
Now think honestlyâgentlyâabout your own walk.
Can you see a place where your footprint drifted slightly to the side?
Not far. Just enough to feel independent.
Maybe the edge of your foot crossed the edge of His.
Or maybe there was a moment when your footprint turned away.
But even then⌠was it truly far?
Or just one step off, still close enough to return without effort?
Hereâs the truth that brings comfort:
Godâs footprint never moves.
It never changes direction.
It never disappears.
And you are never too far to step back inside it.
I love this image of a parent walking with a child on the beach.
The parentâs footprints are large, steady, pressed deep into the sand.
The child tries to match themâsometimes stepping perfectly inside, sometimes wobbling to the side, sometimes distracted by shells or waves.
But the parent never stops walking forward.
And the child is never far.
This is how God walks with us.
As this year begins, I pray we wake each morning with intention.
Not to be perfect.
Not to never misstep.
But to walk close.
To ask, âLord, help me place my foot where You place Yours today.â
And at the end of each day, I pray we look backânot with shameâbut with awareness.
Where did my steps lead me today?
Where did I walk confidently inside His will?
Where did I driftâand where can I walk closer tomorrow?
Because tomorrow is always an invitation.
As this new year unfolds, may it be the year you walk so close to God that there is only one set of footprints.
Not because you are being carriedâ
but because you are walking with Him.
Step by step.
Heart inside His heart.
Life inside His will.
And when you look back one day, may you smileânot because you never wandered, but because you always knew exactly where to return.
His footprint was always there.
đ Reflection
Walking closely with God doesnât mean you never driftâit means you recognize His footprint quickly and choose to step back into it without fear or shame.
â A Question for You
Where in your life do you sense God inviting you to walk closer this season?
đ Prayer
Lord, help me walk close to You. Not perfectly, but intentionally.
When I drift, remind me where to return.
Teach me to place my steps inside Yoursâtoday and every day.
Amen.
đ Practical Step
Each morning this week, pray one simple sentence before starting your day:
âLord, help me place my steps where You place Yours today.â
đ Invite a Friend
Know someone entering a new season or needing reassurance they havenât gone too far?
Forward this to remind them: Godâs footprint is still right where itâs always been.
